A Thought Revisited

In a previous post, I explored, perhaps at too great a length, the following quotation:

“If this was the only life he’d ever tasted, who was he to judge whether it was rich or poor in the stuff that makes life worth living?”- Timbuktu, Paul Auster

If you read that post (oh go ahead and do it to catch up, this is a sequel and otherwise you’ll be lost), you know that the conclusion I reached was that there is no objective measure of what makes a life worth living, validating the quotation.

Well, I’ve reconsidered the thought, and I think there is a fairly accurate way to know if you have led a life worth living. Of course, I’m going to quote someone else to prove my point. My first girlfriend, after I’d ask the love-fueled question:

“Why am I so lucky?” -Adi

answered quite simply and wisely:

“Because you think you are.- Dana

If you think or feel that the life you’ve lead has been rich in the stuff that makes life worth living, it probably has. If you think or feel that the life you’ve lead has been poor in the stuff that makes life worth living, it probably has. Or you just like complaining.
