On Thursday, I managed only a couple hundred words before I decided to grant myself a weekend off from writing. Then ensued a crazy weekend which included a burned face, trajineras, 5 a.m. street tacos, corrupt cops, basketball, live jazz, unfulfilled promises of salsa dancing, a fair share of night clubs, future book ideas, drunken conversations, e-book releases, car ride adventures and plenty (read: plenty) of alcohol. Ants are happy.
Today, I sat back in front of my computer and spouted 1,000 words in a couple of hours. It felt good to have the words flow. Equally as satisfying was looking back at parts of my second novel and getting caught up in reading and forgetting to write. I forget if I’ve used a name before or what a character does for a living and have to go back and read through and I find that what I wrote long ago is actually pretty good. It’s every artist’s inclination to doubt and admire themselves. This is shit, we tell ourselves, and then respond with, this is awesome.

Book two is going well at 72,500 words. The first draft will probably be done with a final word count somewhere between 90,000 and 100,000. Which means that it will be done near the end of March. I haven’t had any real outside indication whether I have more reason to believe my self-doubt or my self-aplomb, but that’s where revisions come in.
Meanwhile promotion for Somewhere Over the Sun continues with more review requests from book bloggers, as well as a few requests from popular blogs here on Tumblr. I’ve sent out copies to a few book awards organizations. Links to reviews should be forthcoming, including one in my former employer, the Rebel Yell.
Also, I love people. No matter how weird you think you are, how close you are to operating on the fringe of society, feel free to contact me. I’m all about being approachable, so do approach.
