GJR: You have an amazing gift of giving life to inanimate objects. Is it harder to write personality into people or things (like trees and mattresses)?
1. What’s the most important thing about your writing environment? Does it change regularly? Or do you require consistency?
I thrive in coffee shops. I don’t know what the most important thing is because I do change it up pretty often. I don’t prefer to write at home, but sometimes that happens. I’m now officially living in my third city since I officially began my career as a writer, so even the coffee shops I visit have changed drastically. When I lived in Monterey I rotated between three or four locations fairly regularly. In Vegas, the 24-hour Starbucks, for obvious reasons, got most of my designated writing time. I’ve just started getting into my writing routine in Mexico City, and I’ve been exploring. I choose my location for the day based on whim, location, menu, view. People-watching is important and availability of outdoor seating is definitely considered, weather allowing.
