I love how there’s a moment during sunsets and sunrises when you can’t really tell if the sky is going to further brighten or further darken. If your short-term memory were erased and you found yourself watching the scenery with no recollection of what time of day it was, you’d have to wait for the earth to rotate for a while to know which way the sun was heading. But in that one moment, it doesn’t even matter if the day is newborn or moribund. You can just appreciate the beauty while it’s there. Whether it’s coming or going is inconsequential to its enjoyment.

If I ever get a tattoo, it’ll be of that moment: a gorgeous sun flirting with a dark horizon, surrounded by colors that would make painters jealous. When people would ask me if it’s a sunset or a sunrise, I’d say, “Both,” and feel really clever.

I know I’ve been filling up my site with a bunch of quotes from my novel and nothing else, but I promise I’ll get back to the blogging that you all love so well soon.
